Role Overview
We are seeking a dynamic Associate General Counsel, Product to join our team during a period of rapid expansion. Reporting directly to the General Counsel, you will play a pivotal role in addressing product, privacy, AI, and regulatory concerns. This is a unique opportunity to influence and develop a burgeoning legal function that acts as a strategic partner within the business. We are looking for a proactive problem-solver who is committed to delivering results.
This is a hybrid position based in the San Francisco Bay Area (preferred) or Los Angeles.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate closely with design, engineering, and research teams to provide legal insights and strategic risk-mitigation counsel on matters such as privacy, data security, copyright, AI regulations, and consumer protection regulations.
Develop and manage a comprehensive global privacy and data protection compliance program.
Establish legal and operational frameworks to efficiently manage risk as the organization scales.
Stay abreast of legal trends impacting AI companies, translating potential risks into practical guidance.
Engage in critical company initiatives that may extend beyond your primary area of expertise.
Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications
In-depth understanding of state and international privacy, data protection, and online safety laws.
Familiarity with copyright, secondary liability, and emerging AI regulations, along with a willingness to learn new legal domains to support business objectives.
Basic knowledge of marketing and consumer protection laws as they pertain to digital platforms and e-commerce.
A low-ego, proactive attitude with a willingness to tackle projects of varying scale independently.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, results-driven environment while collaborating with colleagues across different time zones.
Strong, business-oriented communication skills.
A Juris Doctor (J. D.) degree and active membership in at least one state bar, permitting in-house practice in California.
A minimum of 6 years of legal practice experience.
