A bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical discipline, preferably in electrical or power engineering. Proven experience delivering projects for transmission system operators such as National Grid, SSE, and SPT in compliance with their standards. Project experience in overhead line engineering for voltages up to 400kV. Strong client relationship management and business development skills. Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.

Your Responsibilities:

In this pivotal role, you will serve as a senior member of our Transmission & Distribution team, leading and engaging with clients to deliver technically demanding OHL design projects.

As the Principal Overhead Line Engineer, your primary responsibility will be to provide technical guidance and leadership for the overhead lines teams involved in transmission projects, focusing on overhead transmission lines up to 400kV.

  • Lead the team in delivering overhead line design on complex multi-discipline projects while providing technical support.
  • Offer technical expertise in bids and proposals, representing the company in client meetings as Principal Engineer and applying your extensive experience to a variety of exciting projects.
  • Take full ownership of project scope and technical delivery for overhead line works.
  • Provide expert evaluations and problem-solving solutions to team members.
  • Assist in writing proposals, detailing project timelines, resources, budgets, objectives, and goals.
  • Provide technical support throughout project implementation, including statutory planning and participation in public consultation events.
  • Oversee design activities related to overhead lines, including PLS-CADD modelling, detailed line routing, structural analysis, design criteria formulation, sag-tension calculations, insulator/conductor blowout, swing angle, damper system recommendations, structural spotting, clearance reports, and conductor/insulator selection.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, thermal ratings for conductors, and ensure adherence to industry standards and regulations.
