About the job

Join the NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), a leader in environmental stewardship dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for all New Yorkers. Our agency provides over 1.1 billion gallons of premium drinking water daily, effectively manages wastewater and stormwater, and actively works to mitigate air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. As the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the nation, with a workforce of nearly 6,000 employees, we pride ourselves on our extensive water supply system, which includes 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes spread across a 2,000 square mile watershed, extending 125 miles north and west of the City.

Within DEP, the Bureau of Engineering Design & Construction (BEDC) manages an impressive portfolio of capital projects valued at $35 billion, with an additional $13.6 billion earmarked for future projects over the next decade. These initiatives are crucial for maintaining and enhancing our water supply system.

The Water System Capital Program (WSCP) is responsible for the planning, design, construction management, and construction necessary to uphold the integrity and functionality of our critical infrastructure. BEDC plays a vital role in delivering a substantial multibillion-dollar capital program, which includes the development of new infrastructure and the refurbishment of existing assets across our extensive network of wastewater treatment plants, dams, bridges, reservoirs, tunnels, and pumping stations, ensuring a reliable water supply for New York City and its surrounding areas.

We are currently seeking an Assistant Project Manager to join our WSCP team at the Sutton Park office in Valhalla, NY. Under the guidance of an Accountable Manager, the successful candidate will support the supervision of various water and wastewater projects within our expansive watershed. Responsibilities include planning, coordinating, and directing project implementation, monitoring compliance with permit requirements, and assisting in the resolution of project-related issues. You will also conduct field surveys, prepare comprehensive reports, and review contract documents and regulations to ensure adherence to project standards. Active participation in field investigations will be essential to develop innovative solutions that meet our project objectives. Collaborating closely with our construction management team, you will conduct inspections and ensure quality control throughout the construction process.
