Qualifications
Expertise in designing and optimizing parabolic reflector antennas and multi-band (10 – 100+ GHz) feed systems. Proficient in designing waveguide components including orthomode transducers (OMTs), polarizers, diplexers, filters, and transitions. Experience in validating component designs through vector network analyzer measurements, pattern measurements, and integrated active network testing. Ability to fabricate and characterize prototypes of parabolic antennas, feed horns, and waveguide assemblies, assessing pattern, gain, efficiency, and conducting high-power tests. Collaborative skills to work with mechanical engineers in analyzing surface accuracy, mechanical tolerances, and thermal distortion effects on RF performance. Experience in designing and testing antenna radomes that support multiple bands. Knowledge of designing waveguide networks for high power systems and overseeing high power RF testing. Contributions to the mechanical integration and deployment of reflector antennas and waveguide systems into spacecraft and ground infrastructure. Strong analytical skills to interpret in-the-field operational RF performance data.
About the job
SpaceX is building the Starlink broadband network, which connects over 10 million users worldwide through the largest satellite constellation ever deployed. The team designs, manufactures, tests, and operates every part of the system, from satellites and user hardware to the software that ties it all together. Starlink aims to deliver fast, reliable internet across the globe, and the program is still growing its reach and capabilities.
This Antenna Engineer role focuses on parabolic reflector antennas and waveguide feed systems for both satellites and ground gateways. The position sits within the Antenna Engineering team and plays a central part in advancing Starlink’s RF hardware.
Role overview
- Take full ownership of parabolic reflector antennas, waveguide feed systems, and related RF components
- Drive the design, optimization, and implementation of high-performance reflectors and waveguide networks
- Oversee projects from initial concept through manufacturing and operational deployment in orbit
- Collaborate with senior leadership and cross-functional engineering teams, including mechanical, thermal, manufacturing, and testing, to influence key design decisions
What you will work on
- Design and optimize antennas and waveguide networks for both satellites and gateways
- Guide projects through every stage, from concept to deployment
- Work closely with other engineering disciplines to ensure system performance and reliability
