About the job
About Maincode
Maincode is pioneering the field of artificial intelligence as a dedicated research and engineering firm, proudly hosting Matilda, Australia’s first and only large language model developed from the ground up. Our advanced AI infrastructure is housed in local data centers, where we design, build, and operate systems ranging from server racks to complex model training and serving architectures.
We are in the process of creating an AI Model Factory, a revolutionary compute infrastructure that enables cutting-edge AI research and scalable production systems.
About the Role
This position is a unique opportunity to work at the crossroads of physical systems, large-scale computing, and AI research. You will play an integral role in designing and managing the infrastructure necessary for training large-scale AI models, including GPU racks, high-performance networks, and orchestration systems that ensure smooth operation.
We welcome individuals with a strong research mindset and systems-oriented thinking. While prior data center experience is not required, a strong sense of curiosity, ability to reason from first principles, and a quick learning aptitude are essential. Candidates with backgrounds in mechatronics, robotics, or aerospace, coupled with robust computational skills, will find this role particularly rewarding. We provide ample time, mentorship, and resources to help you master these systems, allowing you to develop expertise in one of the most critical technical fields of the next decade.
What You’ll Do
Gain expertise in designing, deploying, and operating the core infrastructure for AI.
Engage with GPU clusters, high-speed networking, and extensive Linux systems.
Contribute to the architecture of Australia’s inaugural production-scale AI data center systems.
Collaborate with AI researchers and engineers in shaping the next wave of model training environments.
Innovate new operational and architectural strategies based on fundamental principles.
You Might Be a Fit If
You possess hands-on experience with computational systems, including systems programming, Linux environments, GPU or accelerator programming, distributed or HPC environments (e.g., MPI), automation, or large-scale numerical computation.
Your background may include adjacent technical or scientific fields such as mechatronics, robotics, aerospace, or physics, where you have honed strong computational and modeling skills.
You have a passion for understanding complex systems from foundational principles.
You quickly learn and apply new technologies, adapting to the evolving landscape of AI infrastructure.
